Few places on Earth have as many different life zones and bird species as Costa Rica. But it can be challenging to see birds, or simply enjoy nature, amidst crowded tourist areas.
Less than 90 minutes from the SJO Airport, the Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve is one of only 3 cloud forests in Costa Rica. Unlike Monteverde, however, which draws more than 75,000 visitors a year, this smaller 2,000-acre reserve is unknown to most tourists.
Our cloud forest is a diverse ecosystem of plants, trees, orchids, and wildlife (including sloths, frogs, coatimundis, ocelots, howler and white-faced monkeys) and 400+ species of birds, making Villa Blanca one of the top rated Costa Rican “hot spots” on eBird’s mapping system.
At Villa Blanca, you can venture on your own, bring your own guide, or ask us to find one for you. We work with some of the best guides in Costa Rica who have an excellent working knowledge of the various life zones, and our local terrain.
Explore the growing list of the 400+ bird species identified at Villa Blanca and our surrounding cloud forest on eBird. The list is updated regularly, so check back often. And don’t forget to add yours!
We welcome birding groups, clubs and association members to Villa Blanca. To learn more about our rates for groups 5 or larger, please contact one of our group planners.
After a long day of birding, enjoy a glass of wine by the fireplace in your casita. Soothe tired muscles in a whirlpool jacuzzi and enjoy the forest view outside your window. Sip a Costa Rican cup of coffee in a rocking chair and listen to birdsong from your private garden terrace. Villa Blanca offers 6 different casita-types and suites to accommodate your individual or specialized group needs.
